Officials from Domestic Ivory Control Subdivision of the Division of Wild Fauna and Flora Protection, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, inspected 3 Bangkok shops for confirmation on the condition of the shops’ registered ivory. On February 21, 2017, the inspection took place at the “Silver & Leather” shop in Tawanna Market, Bang Kapi District, Bangkok (Thailand). On the next day (February 22, 2017), Domestic Ivory Control Subdivision officials cooperated alongside local authorities in inspecting the Toh Plue Antique shop (located in room g113 of JJ Mall, Kamphaeng Phet 2 Rd, Chatuchak Market, Bangkok) followed by a separate inspection by the subdivision at the nearby Nai Huat Shop in Chatuchak Plaza.
In all cases of inspection, the inspected pieces of ivory were confirmed to be authentic according to the registered ivory database. Additionally, no suspicious activities were found onsite at all locations. These inspections were part of Thailand’s National Ivory Action Plan.
